Yes
It seems like the store rearranges and changes its inventory every few months. However the changes it has made recently have been less and less towards those cooking meals but rather towards college students looking for ready made foods. It has a lot of Asian specialty fast foods but lacks core ingredients for making genuine Asian cuisine.
The place need serious repair. Very corner you turn the ceiling is leaking. Mold hazard..
I've been coming here for years, as the store has undergone various ownership (I think) transitions. Many still refer to it as "88" from the original name . It used to be THE place to go for one-shop shopping of Asian foodstuffs. These days there are some excellent competitors in the Quincy area. But Hong Kong Supermarket remains the best Asian Supermarket in the west-of-Boston area, mostly due to its size, variety of foods, and ... the fact that the Asian fast-food complex is in the adjoining space (facing N. Beacon/Commonwealth). Shopping and then eating are a great combination! Be warned though that it's always freezing in this place ... wear your winter coat if you're going to be there for more than 5 minutes.
This place turns its stock over fast and don't worry too much about niceties. Pop in and out, get some fresh stuff
The grocery store is a go to for any Asian meal you might be cooking. And then you have the food court which has some of the best Asian and vietnamese food in town!
Perfect store to have Asian product and green vegetables. They have decent parking space.
Upgraded since renovation. I originally gave the grocery 3 stars two years ago because it smelled awful and product was not well organized the first time I went in. Since then, they have renovated and significantly reorganized. I love it now. They have an extensive supply of products you won't find in your "traditional" grocery. The produce selection is awesome and good quality. The pricing is reasonable. Highly recommended.
Nice Chinese supermarket with a big selection of items 👍
Great destination for Asian groceries, but the cleanliness and smell kind of kills the experience. One of the few places in the neighborhood with a parking lot!
Yummy asian food court and bubble tea.
Great place to find pork buns and all the ingredients you need for cooking Chinese food
Good location for students, better experience after renovation
It's okay Asian Market and nothing special, the best thing about this store is the parking, free of course and very close to everything. They sell live fish and also clean for you.
Pretty awesome place with delicious small fast food restaurants inside in addition to the asian market. I would not have thought there was great food inside but my husband used to come here a lot. Kinda pricey though for a family!! Feeding 3 adults and 3 children was 90 bucks! Depends on what you get I guess 🙎
I like the new layout and inventory since the renovation. The supermarket carries many specialty goods (so many snacks!) including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean that you won't find in Star Market or Market Basket. My biggest complaint is that the produce can be a little questionable. I think they just have to do a better job at keep tabs on what's about to go bad.
You want bok choy? They have a bok choy AISLE. Great produce at great prices. Most packaged goods include English labeling.
Cool. You can get all kinds of stuff here u can t get anywhere else.
Cheap, good variety of Asian products but fewer Japanese or Korean products in the past 10 years. Produces don't remain fresh for too long unless they just restocked it recently.
One of the only places you can pick up a lot of good Chinese products aside from going into Chinatown or overpriced Hmart. Cheap produce, good noodles, tea, frozen food, rice. Wouldn't recommend the meat, personally. Staff is a little cranky, but expected in a high-volume market in a college area.
All rare asian spices are available here. Great frozen dumplings and other frozen goodies. The only place in allston that sells quality jackfruit and other asian fruits.
At food court, the only place around Boston to find freshly made steam buns, taste so good. Super Market has plenty of oriental supplies. Nice place to find home sick cure.
The Super 88 has been an Alston/Brighton landmark for decades. From odd snacks to Eastern staples, the market will have everything you need and everything you didn't know you wanted to try.Hopefully the empty areas gets filled, but the food court has great Phò, sushi, and tea. Come in and get a taste of the beautiful diversity this country has to offer.
A few items are out of date (expired). A lot of selections nonetheless.
Super cheap produce
Lots of variety! It's very nice since the remodel. The food court area is good too.
The selection can vary from visit to visit, but on average their inventory for what I desire (mainly dried fruit and snacks) is adequate. The dried mangoes, regardless of brand, have all been sweet and chewy - and all from either the Philippines or Thailand. Other highlights include their seaweed crackers (both want want and nori) as well as their raisin Sachima.
Rude staff who closes their registers 20 mins before the advertised closing time. Apparently, it is okay to tell a frequent customer that he cannot buy anything because they already closed their register even though it was not 10:00 pm (advertised closing time).
This is the biggest oriental supermarket I have been to in Boston. Great selection and lots of fruit, vegetable, produce, frozen and dried goods to get. Most of the needs for cooking Chinese food can be met here. They even have a fresh fish/seafood section in the back! I really like the old school Cantonese music playing here too. Brought back memories.
I love this market and all of the take out options this location has to offer
Amazing amount freßh food
If I spoke Chinese I’m sure I could find things better but all in all I like the Asian selection just couldn’t find things in the store easily.
They have everything you could want to cook an Asian inspired dish.
the produce looks not bad. and reasonable pricing!
Most of the foods here are from China and Taiwan and Japan. It really made me miss my hometown.
So many new thing to try. It's an Asian food lovers paradise.
Seeing as though I don't read/speak any Asian languages, I couldn't read most of what was written on most of the items in this store. I would imagine that's a good thing, implying that most of the stuff here is authentic. Beyond that, you will find so many things here that you can't anywhere else. Though, the produce section is pretty limited.Definitely a unique shopping experience. Will definitely be going back.
The food court here has a wide variety of Asian cuisine. All the food is great, the food court even has a Kung Fu Tea.
Newly updated supermarket with whole new large selection of Asians snacks. The veg are mostly fresh. However, the meat and fruit are not always the freshest.
Has Chinese ingredients that you can't find at any regular supermarket
A good source for many Chinese ingredients including food and sauces in cans and jars, dried ingredients, and fresh vegetables, fish, and meat. The store is not clean, smells of rotten vegetables, and has sections which are half-abandoned, but remains an economical and useful resource. NOT where I would buy salad material or fish to eat raw, however!
The place where you can buy meats and vegetables at a very cheap price
Great food court. Quality of produce varies GREATLY. Decent selection. Much of the staff has difficulty with English. Clean store, reasonable prices. Meat dept is very so so
They sell the best ginger tea packets sweetened with honey and the original chewy ginger candy about $2 cheaper than trader Joe's. Plus a ton of things that are in Chinese that other shoppers seem to love.
great food and variety but smells like fish
I personally don't know what this super88 main Target is. It's in Allston/Brighton, so I would assume it's college kids, but yet they have a whole seafood department, when was the last time a college student made whole fresh fish? But they have a sparse meat department. It's just weird and out of place. And as like any other Chinese super market, the ailes are cramped, parking lot has tiny small car spaces, dirty, and because of the location, the items are more expensive as well. They have some stuff but don't have what you need unless you are going in to buy crackers and drinks. Other than that, I recommend folks to just walk a block over to Star Market.
Nice choice of fruits and vegetables.
Great produce at decent prices. Produce are generally fresh. Very wide variety of Asian pantry items.
Grat stuff dumplings my fav.. Live fish.. Da best.. Ooh raah
Great place to shop. Parking is tight but they do have great prices. Large store has a lot of different foods.
There is so much strange stuff for a non oriental person and it's nice to get lost in the aisles. The music is awful Chinese pop songs, funny to hear.
